Skitouring Jostedal and Jotunheimen During the first three months of the year, we ski powdersnow in the midwinter sunglow. In April, May and even June and July warm days of ascent is crowned with turns in spring snow. We climb untracked mountains where only your own heartbeat is heard, unlike crowded resorts. Long descens, or kilometers of nordic style, we have got it. In both steep or cruising terrain, Fimbul Jostedal guides will adapt to your level. If you are more into skiing up on skins for the powder turns back down, please also see Skiing Jostedal. If you are looking for more relaxed nordic style skiing, read on. We have several daytrip alternatives going out directly from the hut or hotel, and it is is also possible to sleep over in old farmer huts in the mountains. ![]() Ski from hut to hut is the classic form of skiing in Norway. In areas like Jostedal, Jotunheimen, Rondane, or Tafjordfjella we arrange tours for nordic skiers. Rondane is easy terrain and has stabile weather, Tafjordfjella and Jotunheimen is more rugged and more prone to heavy weather, which means that snow is always good. Rondane We start in the gentle slopes north of Lillehammer and end up at the high mountains of Rondane. From "Rondevassbu" we ski a day trip to "Vesle-Smeden" 2200 moh. and we have great view to the surrounding mountain ranges. We ski the mountain route east of "Troll løypa". The terrain is easy to ski and and the tempo is suitable for most. We stay in cozy self serviced and serviced huts along the trail. To join this trip you must be able to ski with packs up to 12 kg and have skied off trail earlier. This trip is a classic! The Jotunheimen Circuit This is a 6 days hut to hut trip that takes you through the heartland of Jotunheimen, from east to west. Starting at Gjendesheim, we visit Glitterheim then Spiterstulen and end up at Fondsbu. The route offer a combination of long and short days, and the schedule is not totally fixed for the week. The snow conditions and weather decides our progress and plans. We may stop half a day to practice telemark turns, or bag some peaks if the weather is good. |
